We’re moving, kids
July 27, 2007
I’m becoming frustrated with Blogger. It’s all fine and good but with my new Mighty Mac Mo, I’ve been encountering some minor issues. This spot, from now on, will be Into the Thick of It’s new home. I’ll try to import old posts and comments into the archive but make no promises. I’m not so good with technical aspects of teh blogs. Until then, the Blogger site will remain and we’ll start fresh here.
To my blog buddies: how do you feel about the page layout?

Hey, tonks, I put this over at your old place (but under a different post cuz I cldn’t comment on the “new place” post for some reason), but just in case — I think you listed this as intothethickofit.blogspot.com as opposed to intothethickofit.wordpress.com and the link has the same problem. Took me to someone else’s blog. I don’ wan’ their blog – I want your!!
Anyway, just an fyi. The template is kinda cool, but it makes the individual posts a little less central/important I think. I like the colors.

You are correct, j0lt! This is what happens when the Tonklings wake-up before 5AM three days in a row. The Mama becomes slightly stupid. I’m off to fix it now, thanks!
I think I agree with your take on the design. I like it but I don’t think it’s working for me. At least with Wordrpess I’m not going to lose everything when I switch.

SFAIC, the critical layout question is how a blog comes across on a blackberry — I’ll check yours when i get home, but think it’s going to be much better than average (mostly because of the lack of text on the left side). I imported everything over from my blogger page to my wordpress page at the first of the year (or thereabouts) and it was very easy. The only problem is that internal links within a post get messed up. Duh — a link that says to go to post-name-dot-blogspot isn’t going to magically transform into post-name-dot-wordpress. I don’t think this will be a huge issue for you, though, especially if you leave the old blogger site alive.
On that latter point, you might want to leave it alive anyway, even if you end up importing and deleting all the old text. Otherwise, you can end up with a porn (or penile aid sales) site taking over your old url, and some people who didn’t get the message about the switch getting a rude shock when they click an old link somewhere.

I love the header – I only just found out about the move. As you know I’m also a Blogger to WordPress defector and I so much prefer WP! I had no problem importing my Blogger posts – just followed the instructions I found in the WP forum. I agree with CC – leave up the old site to prevent it being taken over.
