Shame on MAM!

I called MAM the other day- it’s another brand of pacifier that SG likes. Once again I was told that their pacifiers were not BPA free, nor did the company have any intentions of discontinuing the use of BPA- as there were no studies that proved BPA was dangerous. Which is absolutely, positively a big fat LIE. There are several studies out there and they’re compelling enough that Canada will completely ban baby bottles containing BPA within the year.
Let me say this again: the entire country of Canada has declared BPA toxic enough to ban it.

Below is an email I got today (5/16/08) from the Consumer Relations at Sassy/MAM and their website says they are working toward their products becoming BPA- free. Also to my knowledge Canada has already ban BPA (past tense).
“Hello and thanks for taking the time to email us with your questions and concerns. The MAM pacifiers are phthalate free. Most of them are also BPA free. MAM will have all BPA free pacifiers by the end of the year. Here is a list of the ones that are BPA free. MAM Nanno, MAM Soft Rim, MAM Ulti. If I can be of further assistance please let me know. Thanks!

I received the following email from them today (May 19th, 2008)
Hello and thanks for taking the time to email us with your questions and
concerns. MAM pacifiers are phthalate and PVC free. The ones that are
BPA free are The Nanno which is for 0-2 months, the Soft Rim which is
for 0-6 and 6+ months, and the MAM Ulti which is for 0-6 and 6+ months.
The other ones will be BPA free by the end of the year. If I can be of
further assistance please let me know. Thanks!

Dear Consumer: Thank you for your email. Pacifier nipples are made from silicone or latex, materials that do not contain BPA. All MAM Pacifiers are phthalate-free. All MAM Nanno, Soft Rim and Ulti pacifiers are BPA-free. FYI…pearls, stripes, love & affection, trends, black & white collection,diamond, crystal, glow in the dark, tattoo and attitudes are ulti’s, therefore they are BPA-free. If you are currently using a mam pacifier and still don’t know if it is BPA-free, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Other MAM pacifiers currently have Polycarbonate Plastic in the (shield/knob), such as the Mini Mam and Classic Mam. Just as all Sassy products will be BPA-free by the end of the year, MAM has promised to convert the entire line of pacifiers to BPA-free material with shipments at the start of next year.
