Terribly uppity
October 30, 2009
It drives me bat shit crazy when people spell words improperly on Facebook. I have to fight the urge to send them an e-mail that says, “Hey, WRECK is not spelled W-R-E-A-K. Just thought you should know.” It happens often enough that it kind of makes me want to cry because I’m completely dismayed by the fact that they simply can’t spell words my first grader could manage. I’m thinking of keeping a list of the most commonly misspelled words and posting a note, tagging all my friends. But that would be bitchy. So I won’t.

You’ll appreciate this story from long ago. Laggin, Terin and I once knew a very flaky girl. One day, she was complaining about another girl we all knew, and about how snobby she was. Flaky girl concluded, “She’s not all that special. It’s just a facade.” However, she pronounced it, “fakade.”
What’s worse — using words you can’t spell or using words you can’t pronounce? Or both?
Guess we’re just grammar snobs. Or maybe it’s just a fakade.

Oh dear. At least on FB I can delude myself into thinking they were busy or just not thinking clearly or executed a typo (been there, done that). Except usually they’re repeat offenders on the same word. But to say a word wrong outloud, that’s just embarrassing.

Try to stay off Younger’s FB page. She is possibly the worst speller on the face of the earth. Seriously. I KNOW your First Grader can spell better than her.
There is some spelling connection lost in her head. I helped her with a research paper on Judaism the other night. I almost screamed as I watched her type out the first version. She was resorting to spellcheck at least TWICE A SENTENCE!
She has a photo album on FB entitled “Ramdon”…and she wasn’t trying to do a clever play on “Random”. *sigh*

The quizzes are the worst!
I once had a boss that always talked about a point being mute….I tried to offer up “moot” points…but realized she just thought I was crazy! But I will always take that over “supposebly!”

I have always tended to be bothered by misspellings as well. But lately, being around 2 super-smart people who can’t spell worth a lick [they blame it on engineer's brain] is teaching me to try to be patient . . . but I still correct
